The Tradition continues at one of the oldest Moo Duk Kwan schools in the nation - founded by Grandmaster Myung Kyu Kang, 10th Dan Black Belt, in Tae Kwon Do Moo Duk Kwan.
Kang's UAC is located at 2111 16th Street, Sacramento, California. The school was started in 1964 by Grandmaster Kang, an official Martial Arts Master sent by the Korean government, after the Korean War, to advance martial arts skills and philosophy in America.
"Moo" means military and although many aspects of the sport of Tae Kwon Do may be found in the training, it is fundamentally a fighting art that can be traced back 2,000 years to ancient Soo Bak. As such, Grandmaster Kang's time-honored Tae Kwon Do kicks and punches, incorporate techniques that some outside martial artists may view as Judo, Kung Fu, Jiu-jitsu, Aikido, Kick boxing, Tai Chi, Chi Kung, and others.
Advanced students also are taught the use of weapons including swords, knives, and staffs of different lengths. At Kang's UAC the discipline and techniques of Tae Kwon Do are taught in a traditional integrated manner. It truly is like no other place. Many students of martial arts with years of training come to our do jang to advance their studies. Many of the instructors have 20 to 30 years of martial arts experience under Grandmaster Kang.
Our do jang is a professional, energetic, and successful place where beginners and advanced students train to improve their lives and the lives of their friends, family and community.
"To learn one must be humble, respectful, obedient and like the tide, never rushing in, only gaining a little at a time."
